HOW TO TELL YOUR SKIN TYPE: THE BLOTTING METHOD

Determine Your Skin Type Cleure Dry Oily Combination

Don't know if you have dry or oily skin? Gently pat a blotting paper on the different areas of your face. Hold the sheet up to the light to determine how much oil is visible. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you most likely have dry skin. If the sheet shows oil from just the forehead and nose areas, your skin is normal/combination. Lastly, if the paper is covered with oil, it is very likely that you have oily or acne-prone skin.

DRY SKIN

SIGNS: If you have skin that feels dry, tight and looks dull, your skin is likely calling out for moisture. Skin is perpetually flaky, dry, rough skin, no matter how much moisturizer you slather on. Shop our hypoallergenic skincare.

POTENTIAL CAUSES: Most people with dry, hard to manage sensitive skin, suffer with uncomfortable flare-ups of red, itchy and flaky skin. Mature skin, winter weather, and irritating skin care products may have contributed to your condition. What causes the reactions may be a response to products or weather. Dermatologists suggest if the cause is not from a serious allergy or disease, you may very well, be the cause. Frequently changing skin care products that contain irritating ingredients can be one cause. Trying different anti aging treatments, such as spa facials using micro-abrasions or chemical peels may be other causes of sensitive skin. Cleure skincare helps your dry sensitive skin feel and look healthy, you need a simple, daily skin care routine that will work for your skin type.

DRY SKIN? According to the American Academy of Dermatology, about 56% of us have sensitive skin. Dry skin is often associated with sensitive skin, because keeping moisture in your skin from the inside becomes difficult to retain. Keeping it simple with the right skin care products and routine can make a huge difference. Shop non-irritating products for dry sensitive skin here.

OILY OR ACNE-PRONE SKIN

SIGNS: If you have oily skin, you have skin with a heightened oil production process. Excess oil can oftentimes leave pores congested and clogged, leading to acne or breakouts.

POTENTIAL CAUSES: According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), there are many reasons for oily skin, including stress, humidity, genetics, and fluctuating hormones. When your oil glands produce too much oil, this can potentially mix with other substances in the pore, causing a clog and enlarged pores.

OILY SKIN? Avoid harsh, drying ingredients such as fragrance, alcohols, essential oils, and salicylates because they can actually trigger more oil production. Shop Cleure skincare, oil-free and hypoallergenic skincare products for oily skin here.

COMBINATION SKIN

SIGNS: Combination skin typically means that one has oily skin in some parts of your face and dry skin in other parts. If you have normal or combination skin, you might experience dryness around the cheeks. This skin type is also associated with a more oily t-zone, where breakouts may occur around the forehead, nose, and chin.

POTENTIAL CAUSES: If you are using products that contain harsh or skin-irritating ingredients such as fragrance, alcohol, or salicylates, they can ultimately dry out some areas of your face while increasing oil production in other parts (especially around the nose and T-zone) that were previously oily. Thus, your current skincare routine may actually be contributing to your combination skin. If you select products that will not aggravate your skin, your skin can renew itself quickly, with the dry areas hydrated and the oily areas less oily and red—plus minimized pores.

COMBINATION SKIN? Combination skin requires a specialized routine, as this skin type isn’t one size fits all. For best results, make sure to use products free of common irritants such as fragrance, alcohol, and salicylates like Cleure skincare. Utilize emollient packed products to the very dry areas, rubbing them in away from the oily areas. For the oily areas, make sure to use oil-free, lightweight formulas. Carefully apply your products to their respective dry and oily areas. Shop products for combination skin here.
